At TTU-Costa Rica, we are committed to making sure that all our new students get set up for success from day one. One of the ways we ensure that our incoming students get started on the right foot is through pre-enrollment exams.
The TSI (Texas Success Initiative) assessment is an important first step. It is required of all new students except those who are exempt. These exams assess your current skill levels in reading, writing, and math. Take some time to prepare because your TSI scores will determine which courses you may initially enroll in at Texas Tech University.
Students who are exempt from the TSI have demonstrated required competence in math, reading, and writing via scores from one of the following exams:
If you took the SAT.
Minimum requirement: 530 in math for an exemption in math.
Minimum requirement: 480 on the evidence-based reading and writing for an exemption in reading/writing.
To report your SAT scores, please have College Board send the scores to Texas Tech Lubbock, SAT code is 6859.
If you took the ACT.
Minimum requirement of a composite score of 23 with: at least 19 on math for an exemption in math and at least 19 on English for an exemption in reading and writing.
To report your SAT scores, please have the College Board send the scores to Texas Tech University using the SAT code 6859.
Engineering students take exams designed to test their knowledge in math and chemistry. Your scores will help you enroll in the best courses on your path toward becoming an engineer or computing professional.
These no-cost placement exams are administered on campus.
Engineering students must take a placement exam before enrolling in Chemistry. Your score will determine which Chemistry course you should enroll in during your second semester.
Incoming engineering students will be placed in College Algebra and Trigonometry for their first-semester math class. If you want to take Calculus 1 without first taking College Algebra and Trigonometry, you must take the math placement exam on the TTU-CR campus before the start of the semester.
